Who IS that Blonde? Who IS that Blonde?
I like to go for long walks, bicycle rides
I love to travel... some places I have visited are Europe, New York and San Francisco but I was born and raised in Nebraska.
While I was in San Francisco, I went sailing for the first time. I loved every minute!
I'm a voracious reader. Besides the usual technical books, I enjoy reading (and collecting) Ernest Hemingway. I also like Dean Koontz, Janet Evanovich, John Sanford, Anne Rice, Stephen King, Nelson DeMille, Alan Furst, among others. Mystery, suspense, history, adventure, fantasy, horror novels are my favorite escapist material.
Yes! I'm a "geek", a "gear head", a "nerd"! I love everthing electronic... computers, PDAs, digital phones...
Music... Evanessence, Linkin Park, MatchBox Twenty, Aerosmith, AC/DC ... just about anything but Country/Western and hard core Rap!!
I like to meet new people from all over the world. I chat on line on AOL as Not As Nice, Yahoo Messenger as Catila and on ICQ # 84766362
I like rainy days and thunderstorms, candlelight, clean sheets and red wine. People who make me laugh. French Impressionists, boxing (but not the heavyweights.)
I'm a cat person so don't even talk to me if you hate cats!

Say that again?

Two tourists were driving through Wisconsin. As they were approaching
Oconomowoc, they started arguing about the pronunciation of the town's
name. They argued back and forth until they stopped for lunch. As they
stood at the counter, one tourist asked the blonde employee. "Before we
order, could you please settle an argument for us? Would you please
pronounce where we are... very slowly?

The blonde girl leaned over the counter and said, Burrrrrr, gerrrrrr,
Kiiiing."

I'm listening to...

Queen Latifa, The Dana Owens Album
It's really nice. She does have a beautiful voice and it's well suited to jazz and blues.

Beginning to climb out

My last post was pretty depressing.. sorry.
Things are not great yet but, ya know, everybody has problems and all things considered, mine are really minor. I have a lot of good things in my life and I know I'm lucky.
Work is still there but I'm doing better and I have a new supervisor who is trying to inject a little fun into the work routine, bless her.
I finally went to the doctor to get everything checked out. I came out with a pretty clean bill of health. I even had a colonoscopy. Now that's some fun... the test itself isn't a big deal. I slept thru it. The prep was not fun. The only problem they found is diverticulitus. That explained some stuff. And that's all I have to say on the subject.
Now the bills are coming in... sure would be nice to win the lottery.
And the house payment went up by $100.00 a month...
My birthday was September 27th. My son sent me a check (what a guy!)
Most of it will go for the bills from my check-up. And I needed new glasses. Mine broke the day I went to get my driver's license renewed. Got the eyes checked, so now I have that expense as well.
There I go whining again! Just slap me!

Had some fun the last couple of months. Celebrated Lance Armstrong's sixth win by watching the last day on OLN with my guy. We had champagne and orange juice and croissants and strawberries!
In August we went to a bike ride in Iowa with another couple and stayed in an historical landmark B&B.
Very nice...

My guy's birthday is the day before mine on September 26th and my daughter's was September 4th. So I've gotten to go out for dinner a few times... a treat.

Introduced my guy to my ex (he came to visit our daughter on her bday) I was a little apprehensive, my ex has had problems letting go, but he was ok.

Oh, and I'm finally getting the leaky roof replaced. The insurance company took another look and they'll pay to replace it.

Deeply Discouraged/Pity Party

Sometimes your brain floods in a rush of emotion; it makes it difficult to write down your feelings.

My job entails answering customer service calls for ten hours a day. The calls come in without pause one after another and you are required to answer each caller's questions in five minutes or less and about one third of the calls are frm angry people or ones who are looking for someone to argue with.

The less time you spend on each call the better your "stats". You can be fired because you spend too much time answering the customer's questions.

I take too much time. I'm not meeting my stats.

So. I am now on a "plan". I will have 30 days to bring my numbers up or "maybe this isn't a good job" for me. My manager asked "is there something going on in your life I need to know about?" Well, in the last five years, I've lost both my mom and dad, I was divorced, I lost a job making 50k a year and the only job I could get was this one making half that, every PAP smear I get tells me I have atypical cells on my cervix which could be pre-cancerous, my "baby" is leaving for college, I'll be 53 in two months and have very little saved toward when I retire, my house needs a new roof (it leaks) and I'm in love with a man I can't have.

Of course I didn't tell him all that, just shook my head... after all this is the man who said "work is work, home is home, what's to balance?" But it gets scary when I start thinking about how much insurance do I have... and how fast the car would need to go to get it over the guardrail and into the river...

Hopelessness can seem like a deep trench you may never have the strength to climb out of.

Tour De France

I'm addicted to the coverage of the tour on OLN. Watch it every morning. I'm rooting for Lance but there are some "young guns" out there that look really good. May be about time for a changing of the guards? The mountains are coming up, we'll see who has the staying power.

Catching up...

Hmmmm.... seems I have a lot of catching up to do so here we go.
Highlights:
Graduation, she's no longer in high school. She has her diploma. She seems so lost. She did get her application in to the university she was talking about but she still hasn't gotten her transcripts sent. And inspite of my "gentle hints", no she doesn't want to get a job. The lack of ambition frankly scares me.
Her dad came to town for the ceremony. She was not especially enthusiastic about seeing him and it hurt his feelings. He layed a guilt trip on her and then left without saying goodbye. She did not send him a card on Father's Day and did not call him (although I reminded her several times.) He called the next day to tell her he was sad she didn't think of him. If it weren't for my sister or her friends getting her out to shop, I don't think she'd bother getting me a card or present. Again, there is this lack of ambition, but then maybe this is a typical teen-age thing????

BRAN, I didn't get to go on the entire trip. I couldn't take the time off from work. We drove to Cody Saturday, ride to Springview, Sunday and Monday to Butte. Drove home Monday evening and then left early Friday and met up with my guy in Oakland. He had the tent up and was waiting for me to get there. We made the tent shake a while and then went into town and had burgers and beer at a bar. Next day it was on to Ft. Calhoun and the end of the ride. A storm blew up as we headed home.

Our plans were to go to Wayne for the Chicken Show
Unfortunately my guy was having severe leg pain and after suffering a few days he finally went in to get it checked out. Turns out he had a deep vein thrombosis in the calf of his leg. He was in the hospital for a week and is now recovering.

I'm still here

Well, I got through training and started my job and... I hate it. Most people are nice enough but the ones that are complete and utter a$$h01e$ can ruin your whole day because they want to make it personal... they say "YOU did this" and call you names! Why?! I'm telling them what the company policy is. I didn't make the policy. They think I'm telling them this because I LIKE to pi$$ them off so they can yell, call me names and make me cry?!
